DIY_Dan_88 Posted 01/12/2025 Share Posted 01/12/2025 Hey everyone. Just wanted to share my recent experience and get some thoughts. I won a 'Run & Drive' 2018 Accord from Houston Motors Auction last week. To be honest, I was expecting it to limp off the delivery truck. But it started right up, drove fine, and the condition report was spot on. Did I just get lucky, or are their 'Run & Drive' assessments usually this accurate? Trucker_Tom Posted 01/12/2025 Share Posted 01/12/2025 Nah, that's pretty standard for them in my experience. I've bought two pickups from Houston Motors Auction. Both were 'Run & Drive' and both were solid. The '19 RAM I got last year is still my daily driver.
CarlaG_LovesVWs Posted 01/12/2025 Share Posted 01/12/2025 Same here! My Golf was listed as Run & Drive and it was perfect. The photos on houstonmotorsauction.com were very detailed too which helped. Congrats on the Accord!
WrenchWizard Posted 02/12/2025 Share Posted 02/12/2025 Glad you had a good experience, Dan. Just to clarify for newbies, 'Run & Drive' isn't a guarantee of roadworthiness. It means the auction verified the vehicle starts, can be put into gear, and moves under its own power. It doesn't mean it's ready for a 500-mile road trip. That said, I've inspected a few cars for friends from Houston Motors Auction and their reports are way more honest than most.
Skeptical_Sal Posted 02/12/2025 Share Posted 02/12/2025 @WrenchWizard makes a good point. I was nervous about it myself. I had some questions and emailed their support at office@houstonmotorsauction.com. It took them about a day to get back to me, which had me antsy, but the agent who called was super patient and explained their whole inspection process. The car showed up exactly as they said it would.
DIY_Dan_88 Posted 02/12/2025 Share Posted 02/12/2025 Thanks for the clarification @WrenchWizard, that makes total sense. Appreciate the info. Still very happy with my purchase from houstonmotorsauction.com.
Boat_Life_Bobby Posted 03/12/2025 Share Posted 03/12/2025 It's not just cars. I bought a Sea Ray boat from them. The engine report was accurate, but the best part was the title transfer. I was worried it would be a nightmare with a repo boat, but Houston Motors Auction handled everything. The clear title arrived with all the official paperwork during delivery. Super smooth. FamilyVanFran Posted 03/12/2025 Share Posted 03/12/2025 Adding my positive story! We desperately needed a bigger vehicle and got a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica. The 'Run & Drive' status was accurate, and like @Boat_Life_Bobby said, the paperwork was painless. I was so stressed about getting a clean title from the bank, but it was all handled by them and arrived with the van. No issues at all.
FirstTimeBidder21 Posted 04/12/2025 Share Posted 04/12/2025 This thread is super reassuring. I'm watching a RAV4 on houstonmotorsauction.com and was worried about the process. Thanks for sharing everyone.
ProjectCarPete Posted 04/12/2025 Share Posted 04/12/2025 They're my go-to for project cars. Their descriptions are solid. If it says 'Stationary' believe it lol. But for 'Run & Drive' they're usually spot on. Found a great classic Mustang on Houston Motors Auction that only needed cosmetic work.
DeliveryDude Posted 05/12/2025 Share Posted 05/12/2025 My only minor gripe was that delivery took a day longer than the initial estimate. But their dispatcher called me ahead of time to let me know, so it wasn't a surprise. The car itself was exactly as described in the 'Run & Drive' report. No complaints on the vehicle. Sarah_Connor_84 Posted 05/12/2025 Share Posted 05/12/2025 I'll echo the positive sentiment. Houston Motors Auction is legit. I think people get scared by repo auctions, but if you read the reports carefully, you can get a great deal. My husband's Tundra is proof.
RV_Ron Posted 06/12/2025 Share Posted 06/12/2025 Got a Class C motorhome from them. The generator hours and engine condition were just as listed on houstonmotorsauction.com. Really happy with the whole process. It's a solid company.
EcoWarriorJen Posted 06/12/2025 Share Posted 06/12/2025 I specifically looked for a used EV and found a good deal on a Nissan Leaf through them. The battery health report was accurate, which was my biggest concern. Thumbs up for Houston Motors Auction.
HelpfulHenry Posted 07/12/2025 Share Posted 07/12/2025 Tip for @FirstTimeBidder21: Don't just look at the 'Run & Drive' tag. Open up the full condition report on the website. They have tons of photos, including the undercarriage, and they list every little scratch. That's where you see the real condition. The transparency is why I trust them.
